Some roofs just need a patch. Others need a full tear-off and a fresh start. Knowing the difference - and doing the work right either way - is what separates a real roofer from a guy with a caulk gun.

Here's what we were working with on this one: old roofing stripped back completely, decking exposed, skylights pulled, pipe boots and flashing all laid out and ready to be reset. This is the part most homeowners never see. It's also the part that matters most. If the base isn't solid, nothing on top of it will last.

We treat every job the same way - whether it's a small repair or a full replacement. The scope changes, but the standard doesn't. We're checking the deck condition, addressing any soft spots, making sure every penetration is properly flashed before we ever think about laying new material down.

With asphalt shingle work specifically, the details underneath the shingles are what make or break the roof's lifespan. Nail pattern, underlayment, flashing at every transition point - those aren't optional steps. They're the whole job. Skipping them is how you end up calling another contractor two years later.

If your roof has been giving you problems - leaks, missing shingles, soft spots, or just age - it's worth having someone take a real look. Not every situation needs a full replacement, but you won't know until you actually get eyes on it.
