Three layers of old shingles. That's what we were dealing with on this one. A lot of roofers will try to layer right over existing shingles to save time - but that shortcut causes real problems down the road. Added weight, trapped moisture, and a new roof that's only as good as the rotting layers underneath it.
When we do a tear-off, we go all the way down. Every layer comes off so we can see exactly what the decking looks like before anything new goes on. That step matters more than most homeowners realize. If there's soft wood, water damage, or compromised decking hiding under those old shingles, we catch it and fix it before it becomes a much bigger issue.
Once the surface is clean and solid, that's when the real work begins. Fresh asphalt shingles laid from scratch on a properly prepared deck - that's what gives you a roof that actually performs the way it's supposed to. Clean lines, tight installation, and the kind of finished product that you can see holds up even from the street.
Here's the thing about doing it the right way - it costs more up front than a patch job or a layer-over. But it's also the difference between a roof that lasts and one that has you calling a roofer again in five years. We'd rather do it once and do it right.
We handle the full job, start to finish. Tear-off, inspection, install - all of it. If your roof is getting up there in age or you've already had it re-layered once, it might be time to talk about a proper replacement instead of another bandage.
