Most homeowners never think about what's underneath their shingles. But that's exactly where a roof either holds up or fails. The underlayment, the flashing details, the way each layer transitions into the next - that's what separates a roof that lasts from one that leaks in five years.

On this job, we're in the final stretch. The new dark gray asphalt shingles are laid across the bulk of the field, and we're dialing in the critical areas - the valleys, the roof-to-wall connections, and the penetrations around vents and turbines. These are the spots that take the most abuse when water runs down a roof. We don't rush them.

We use TriBuilt synthetic underlayment across the entire deck before a single shingle goes down. It's a heavy-duty moisture barrier that gives the roof a solid foundation - and it's a big reason we're comfortable backing our work with a lifetime warranty. The material matters, but so does the installation. Shingles nailed into properly prepared decking, with clean lines and tight seams throughout, is what keeps water where it belongs - off the structure.

The detail work around penetrations like turbine vents is where a lot of roofers cut corners. We don't. Each penetration gets properly flashed and sealed so there's no path for water to sneak in. It's not glamorous work, but it's what the warranty is built on.

When we wrap a job like this, the goal is simple - the homeowner should never have to think about their roof again. No callbacks, no leaks, no second-guessing the install. Just a clean, solid roof that does its job for decades.
